Big Brother Mouse Program

The Big Brother Mouse (BBM) program supports the local writers to publish books in Lao. Once these books are published BBM staff members distribute these books to children and set up starter libraries in rural areas.
Why the need?
In Laos, only 58% of elementary school age children are literate. Schools in Laos struggle with funding, properly trained teachers, facilities, and educational materials. Books are generally not considered a recreational or creative necessity in Laos. Many children, especially in rural Laos have never seen, let alone owned, a book that is not part of their school curriculum.
How Team Efforts Translate to Impact
All funds raised by teams support BBM to distrbute two new children's books and through book parties, reach 6,000 to 7,000 children in 120 rural villages.
How Big Brother Mouse Creates Sustainable Global Change
Big Brother Mouse addresses the issues specific to the children living in rural communities in Laos. BBM works to bring children books in their own language that they have no access to otherwise. BBM also empowers local writers to write and publish books that are culturally appropriate.
