School on Wheels Programs

School on Wheels provides a number of services to area homeless children:

  • One-on-one weekly tutoring with a volunteer
  • School supplies and school uniforms
  • Toll-free number for kids to have constant contact with School on Wheels
  • Assistance in entering school
  • Help in locating lost records
  • Parent guidance in educational matters for their children

Why the need?

1 in 9 homeless people in America live in Los Angeles County. There are currently 290,000 homeless children in California. Homeless mothers and children are now the fastest-growing segment of the homeless population. In Los Angeles alone, there are almost 25,000 homeless kids from Kindergarten through Grade 12 enrolled in the Los Angeles Unified School District.

How Team Efforts Translate to Impact

School on Wheels students

School on Wheel’s goal this year is to give out 10,000 backpacks full of school supplies to students.

Every $20 raised will give one student one backpack.

How School on Wheels Creates Sustainable Change

School on Wheels addresses the particular needs in their community, educating homeless children. School on Wheels helps students enroll and stay in school and the school supplies NGC funds support enable students to participate in school like their peers.
