Solar Cooker Project
Malawi
Solar Cooker Project Program
The Solar Cooker Project produces solar cookers that are made with cardboard and aluminum foil and are very effective in cooking most foods without fire. Additionally, solar cookers can be used to disinfect drinking water and medical supplies, as well as assist in the canning of tomatoes and fruits.
Why the need?
The use of firewood results in deforestation, air pollution from all the cooking-fire smoke, and injury to children whose mothers must walk great distances to collect wood each day. Many times girls must miss school in order to collect firewood to help provide food for their family.
How Teams Efforts Translate to Impact
All funds raised will purchase materials for production of the solar cookers.
Each solar cooker costs $5 to make.
How the Solar Cooker Project creates Sustainable Global Change
The Solar Cooker Project supplies and promotes the production of solar cookers that can be locally produced at a low cost. The solar cooker production also creates jobs and a whole new local business which strengthens the local economy.
