FXB Youth Club Program
The FXB Youth Club provides youth a place where they can receive assistance with their homework, join in recreational activities, learn cultural art, music and dance, discuss issues important to their health and well-being, and participate in HIV/AIDS education and prevention programs.
In addition to HIV prevention and awareness, FXB’s after school programs provide students with medical assistance, meals, educational tutoring, leadership development, and life-skills such as reproductive health and financial planning.
Why the need?
Despite its recent economic growth, South Africa has one of the highest HIV rates in the world at 18.1% (CIA World Factbook).
The communities that FXB Youth Club serves, shanty towns in Mpumalanga and Gauteng Provinces, have to deal with not only AIDS, but also with poor sanitation, high rates of unemployment, lack of education, abuse towards children and women, and malnutrition. Many young people enrolled in FXB’s programs have lost one or both parents to AIDS, and they grow up amidst violence neglect and instability.
How Team Efforts Translate to Impact
Funds will support FXB in providing after school programs that help children achieve in school and promote awareness and acceptance of youth orphaned by AIDS.
-
$20 covers the monthly medical costs for FXB youth.
-
$500 allows 30 FXB students to receive after school tutoring, including all materials for one year.
