Stanford Summer Theater presents its smashing 2007 season, *Africa Onstage: "Let us tell you a story,"*
a festival of plays and films from and about Africa
June 25 through August 26, 2007.


The Festival begins June 25 with the first of our eight free Monday night films (*A Dry White Season*), and moves onstage with four productions:

  • Dan Hoyle's smash hit *TINGS DEY HAPPEN* (4 performances only, July 5-8)
  • Lorraine Hansberry's riveting classic *LES BLANCS* (12 performances only, July 19-August 5)
  • Femi Osofisan's infectious comedy *FAREWELL TO A CANNIBAL RAGE* (4 performances only, August 9-12)
  • Tsegaye Gabre-Medhin's masterpiece *ODA OAK ORACLE* (August 16-19 at Stanford, August 23-26 in Oakland

IMPORTANT: As our 2006 season completely sold out, SST recommends purchasing tickets online at http://summertheater.stanford.edu. Non-reserved tickets MAY be available at the door the night of the performance, on a "pay what you like" basis (suggested donation: $20).

YPW: New Global Citizens and Mobilize.org are presenting this conference highlighting how high school students are an essential part of the solution to the world's biggest challenges.  This conference is FREE and open to all students, grades 9-12 in the great LA area.

If you have registered and are planning on attending you will need to bring a filled out Parent Permission form.

In the midst of a 20-year conflict in Uganda, over 1-million people have been displaced, on top of thousands of night commuters. This walk is organized to show solidarity with the children night commuters.

YPW goes to Ecuador
October 14 - October 28, 2006

YPW Program Officer, Ouida Chichester, is traveling to Ecuador to visit our partner organization Fundación de Discapacitados “Simón Palacios Intriago” (Foundation for People with Disabilities). During the ’05 ’06 school year two seniors at Northgate High School in Walnut Creek started their Huellas de Esperanza (Fingerprints of Hope) project to help build a rehabilitation center for the foundation.  Ouida will be checking in on the progress of the project.

International AIDS Candlelight Memorial

Members of YPW will be joining thousands of people around the world on Sunday, May 21 for the 2006 International AIDS Candlelight Memorial. On this day, thousands of communities around the world will come together in solidarity to light candles and remember those who have been affected by HIV/AIDS. Each year, Memorials take place in over 4,500 communities in more than 93 countries.

The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial has become the largest grassroots AIDS event in the world. For more information visit the memorial's website, and if you are interested in standing with YPW members in the East Bay or San Francisco please contact us.
