Team Mentors

Job Description:  Team Mentor

New Global Citizens is looking for alumni members who are interested in serving as Team Mentors.  The role of the mentor is to offer direct support to teams and act as the voice of NGC with members, teachers, and school administrators. We have a special focus for youth in NoCal, SoCal, Phoenix, and NYC, but we’re taking applications in all parts of the country!

Responsibilities:

Our program starts in August and ends in June.  You will be given a portfolio of 10-15 teams to support, serving as the “face” of New Global Citizens.  Here's what you'll do:

  • Team Support:  Meet regularly with NGC teams to offer tools, training, and encouragement to ensure team success.   Our movement is national so you'll check in via email, telephone, web conferencing for out-of-town teams and in-person visits for our area teams.  You'll track team progress and gather data to evaluate the impact of the NGC program.
  • Leadership:  Serve as a role model to youth and help connect them to resources in the community and nationally to aid in their future goals as empowered NGCitizens.
  • Training:  Help us organize workshops and presentations.  This fall, NGC will host a Global Action Workshop.  You'll participate in a variety of ways including:  facilitating team building activities, problem solving exercises, and group energizers.
  • Collaboration:  Every three months you'll train with a close cohort of Team Mentors working together to make the program a success.  And you'll check in bi-weekly with an NGC Program Coordinator who will serve as your direct line of ongoing support.

Mentors are offered a $300 dollar stipend per semester. This internship provides an opportunity to develop experience in the field of youth development and program administration.

Our Team Mentors must believe in the power of young people to create global change.  Additionally, the role requires solid understanding of global poverty, advocacy, and community development.

Potential candidates should thrive in an entrepreneurial environment and possess organization skills, flexibility, comfort working both independently and as part of a team, and proficiency with online tools, social networking sites, and computer programs.

Additional Requirements:

  • Relevant experience working with youth ages 14-18
  • Previous experience as an NGC Team Member
  • Passion for global issues and grassroots change
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Reliable transportation
  • Able to commit through both fall and spring semesters
  • Background check
  • 5-10 hours per week
